Prepare a healthcare resume for your next application

A practical checklist for organizing clinical experience, credentials, availability, and a readable healthcare resume.

By Practica · Published

Start with the job you want

Read the posting before editing your resume. Identify the role, care setting, schedule, location, and stated qualifications. Your opening summary should make the relevant parts of your experience easy to find. Use the employer’s terminology only when it accurately describes your work.

Keep a complete work history in a separate document. For each application, select the duties and experience that explain your fit. A medical assistant applying to an outpatient clinic may need to emphasize a different part of their experience than an applicant seeking a hospital position.

Describe work with concrete details

List employer names, job titles, locations, and dates consistently. Explain what you did in plain words, including patient populations, care settings, and systems you actually used. Include a result or scope when you have a reliable record; do not estimate a number to make a bullet look stronger.

Remove patient names and identifying details. A resume can describe your responsibilities without telling an individual patient’s story.

  • Use a clear heading for professional experience.
  • Separate paid work, placements, and volunteer experience.
  • Check that dates and titles match your own records.

Make credentials and availability clear

List credentials accurately, including the issuing body and status where relevant. Do not describe a pending qualification as completed. Review the posting’s requested documents and ask the employer about requirements you cannot determine from the listing.

State the locations and employment types you are considering. If your availability has limits, keep that information current in your profile so a conversation starts with the right expectations.

Review the extracted text before applying

On Practica, you can upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT resume to your profile and edit the extracted text. Check that headings, dates, and credentials survived extraction in the right order. The original document is discarded after extraction; the editable text is what remains in your profile.

Read the finished profile once as a hiring team would. Confirm your contact details, role, location, and employment preferences before you apply. License information on the platform is self-reported, and employers must verify qualifications.
